"Battlegrounds Quilboar Comp: Blood Gems and a Scaling Carry"
Meta note: specific Quilboar cards rotate with patches. This is the archetype's evergreen plan, not a current list.
Quilboar are the Blood Gem tribe. Their entire identity is generating Blood Gems — small, repeatable buffs — and then making each gem worth more, funneling all of it into a carry that grows turn after turn. When the gem engine is humming, Quilboar produce one of the strongest single carries in the game.
The win condition
The Quilboar plan has three gears:
- Generate Blood Gems — Quilboar effects produce gems that apply small permanent stat buffs.
- Increase gem value — support pieces make every Blood Gem stronger, so each buff does more.
- Funnel into a carry — pour your gems (and golden gems) into one or two scaling minions that become enormous.
It's a scaling comp: you invest gems over the game and snowball a carry past what other boards can answer.
How it plays
Quilboar reward APM and gold efficiency — you want to spend gold and trigger gem generators every turn to keep the buffs flowing. The comp can scale very high in the late game, especially once you've boosted your gem value, but it leans on protecting the carry that holds all those buffs.
Positioning notes
- Protect your primary carry at all costs — it holds the bulk of your invested gems. Losing it is catastrophic.
- Consider a second buffed body as insurance against poison or removal taking your main carry.
- Mind cleave and poison around your big minion.
When to commit to Quilboar
- The tribe is open and Quilboar keep appearing in your shops.
- You found a gem-value booster early — that's what makes the engine elite.
- You want a high scaling ceiling and can play efficiently to feed gems each turn.
What counters Quilboar
- Poison / Venomous. This is the big risk: if all your gems are on one carry and a poison minion trades into it, your whole investment evaporates. Spread some buffs or run Divine Shields.
- Removal and zapp effects that target your loaded carry.
- Faster comps that close the game before your scaling fully comes online.
Takeaway
Quilboar win by turning a stream of Blood Gems into one oversized carry. Commit when the tribe is open and you've found a gem-value booster, spend efficiently every turn to keep gems flowing, and — above all — protect (and ideally back up) the carry that holds your investment. Poison is the threat that can undo a whole game of scaling, so plan for it.
